18'' Doll Patterns

 Have you heard of American Doll? Well, I bought my daughter two of them off ebay the other day. I am saving them for either Christmas or her birthday. They are pretty expensive to buy new, so I found some great deals on ebay. The clothes are about $25 average on the American Girl site. You can also buy those on ebay for less, but I am going to make her some clothes since it will be a lot cheaper. I found some FREE American Girl patterns online HERE if you want to sew some yourself. 

As for now, my daughter is playing with an 18'' Springfield doll from Micheal's Craft. I had a 40% off coupon, so I got the doll for $12. Not bad! The little one really loves her doll, and changes her shoes constantly (we bought two pairs from Micheal's for 5 each. ) Now I just need to get to making some clothes for this doll and the new ones to come.

Now off to sew clothes. I am going to let the little one pick out the scrap fabric to make some pants and a top for her doll. I am going to try to figure out how to make the shoes as well. It can be that difficult. ;)

    I suggest keeping the Springfield doll's hair braided. It can get out of control really quickly. The AG dolls will be much better in that regard.

    If you don't want to struggle with making your own pattern for shoes, there are patterns available from the major pattern companies. One is McCalls 3469, which I have but haven't tried yet. I think there might be one out from Vogue now too. Watch for 99 cent sale at Jo Ann's. :) Happy sewing!

    Thanks for providing these useful tips over here. Doll dress patterns provides a variety of outfits and collars to create, which techniques from these doll clothing patterns and look like a pro. These patterns were pretty basic and always as easy to follow like newer patterns available for dolls from sewing stores...

I just love the baby hooded towels, but my little one has grown out of them. I have been using regular towels on her, and I miss the hood. I came across this tutorial on how to make large sized hooded towels, but can't seem to find the tutorial anymore. I tried to recall as best I could, and tried to make a couple, here is what I came up with... This hooded towel is so easy to make and I LOVE how big they are! Maxi Skirt Tutorial

Here is a maxi skirt I made and wore for Thanksgiving. It is so easy and inexpensive to make!  Material: Fabric: You will need to pick out the fabric material and color you want. I used a stretch knit from Joann's Fabric. (Don't forget to use your coupons when buying your fabric!) Elastic band First, you will need to measure how much fabric you will need. I measured from where I wanted the skirt to start, down to the floor, for the length. For my skirt, I got 45'' in length (keep in mind the type if shoes you will be wearing with your skirt. For flats, it will need to be shorter, for heels, measure longer.) The great thing about this material is that I did not need to finish any edges! It will not fray and looks fine unfinished. Woo hoo! :) Next, you will need to measure your waist for the elastic length. Keep in mind that your length will need to be about an inch shorter than your waist measurement. Graduation Cupcake Stand

Here is a graduation cupcake stand I was asked to make for a party this Saturday. The school colors are hunter green and gold. I bought the fabric and trims from Joann's fabric. The top is a graduation cap with a tassel I made. I took a 10inch cake board, and cut it into a 7'' square, then wrapped it in back. I added a button that I wrapped in the same black fabric and a tassel I made out of embroidery thread. The great thing about the top, is that you can put cupcakes on it as well as the other layers!
